St Joseph's Cathedral Abu Dhabi

About the Cathedral


The foundation for the St. Joseph’s Cathedral was laid in 1962 and it had been formally inaugurated in 1965. However, the church was moved to its current location in 1981 in line with the choice that the church and its related schools be moved to a different location.

 

The new complex was officially inaugurated within the presence of Abu Dhabi’s former ruler, His Highness Shakhbout bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in 1983. St. Joseph’s Cathedral now incorporates a parish of around 100,000 expat Catholics from across the planet with services offered in several languages.

Churchgoers can participate within the following prayer groups at the St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Abu Dhabi:

 

  • Bible Study

St. Joseph’s Bible Study groups are hosted on Tuesdays from 08:00 pm to 09:00 pm in one amongst the rooms within the St. Therese Block or the most church hall on the second floor.


 

  • Prayer Group Konkani


Established in 2000 by 18 members of the Konkani community, the Konkani Prayer Group of national capital (KPG) was launched on the necessity of a prayer group within the language. 

 

  • Legion of Mary


The Legion of Mary is an organisation of devotees with a sole purpose to administer glory to God through the sanctity of its members. It’s a balanced prayer programme which involves visits to the aged or sick, parishioner visitations, religious education and meeting other spiritual needs of the parish community. Meetings are Fridays and Wednesdays.


Timings: 07:30 am and 05:00 pm (Fridays) | 05:30 pm and 08:15 pm (Wednesdays)

The English Prayer Group was formed in 1985 and currently encompasses a core team of 4 to five members headed by a gaggle coordinator who reports to the Spiritual Director. It also involves several departments, each with a diverse number of members directed by a Ministry Head. Current ministries at the St. Joseph church includes:

  • Spiritual Revival Ministry (SRM)


This is a Catholic prayer group that conducts daily English prayer sessions for parishioners. Weekly prayer meetings are held at the Assisi hall within the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Abu Dhabi and everyone is welcome to affix.

  • Couples of Christ (CFC)

The CFC programme is dedicated to the renewal of Christian family life and is an association created by Christian couples committed to the cause.
