Opera Aida to Perform in Hatshepsut Temple on 26th and 28th of October

For this great ambition, Luxor has launched a well-prepared marketing camping, targeting some European and Asian countries. 

Before digging into the details of the anticipated show, let’s explain what “Opera Aida” is, for those who are not so familiar with it.  Aida is an opera in four acts by the Italian Opera Composer Giuseppe Verdi, to an Italian libretto, Antonio Ghislanzoni. Verdi was commissioned by Khedive Ismail Pasha to compose “Opera Aida” for 150,000 gold francs in 1870. 

The Khedivial Opera House was built in 6 months only by the orders of Khedive Ismail Pasha to host the celebrations of Suez Canal Opening.  

“Opera Aida” was mainly composed to be performed in Suez Canal Opening Celebrations. However, due to the late arrival of the customs and decorations designed in Paris for the show, the show was not held. Instead “Opera Rigoletto” was performed by an international Italian troupe.

“Opera Aida” story events revolve around the love story between the Ethiopian princess, Aida, and the Commander of the Egyptian Army, Radamis. Through which the conflict between love and duty reveals. Aida had a grave inner conflict between her love of the Egyptian price and her duty to her father and country. 

“Aida” was made as a slave by The Egyptian king’s daughter, who loved Radamis as well. in an attempt to rescue Aida, Aida’s father with Egypt’s Ethiopian enemies heads to invade Egypt. Unfortunately, the father was imprisoned as well by the Egyptian army. But for his good luck, he met his daughter in prison. Upon the demand of the father, Radamis leaked a military secret to the Ethiopians.

The Egyptian pharaoh sentenced Radamis for a burial alive after knowing that he was trying to escape with Aida to Ethiopia. Aida’s true love for Radamis led her to wait for him in the tomb, wanting to sacrifice her life, dying with him. 

Through the different scenes of the conflict between duty and love, Verdi explores how destinies are shaped. Thus, Verdi depicts the main Characters with pitiful humanity, shedding the light on human defects, undesired destines, passion, duties, and bad luck. 

Verdi Succeeded in delivering emotions in depth through convincing music, and the right choice of voices while premiering first in Milan. Then, “Opera Aida” took its journey to Argentina, the U.S., Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland, and other countries. 

Affected by the Egyptian history, geography, and culture, Verdi composed a variation of the best Egyptian melodies harmonically. It accomplished the third act with the Nile scene. 

Verdi composed “Opera Aida” with the Italian political change in mind. Verdi was usually reflecting the political conflicts around the world in his operas. He was known as the “Composer of the Revolution”.

Verdi is one of the most remarkable Italian composers; his first opera, “Oberto”, premiered at La Scala in Milan. During the “galley years” of Verdi, he created most of his notable works, such as “Rigoletto” (1851), “Il Trovatore” (1853) and “La Traviata” (1853), which are known as best-composed pieces of opera history till today. 

At the end of his artistic journey, Verdi composed two plays with Shakespeare “Otello” (1887) and “Falstaff” (1893). 

“Opera Aida” show is performed by a professional crew that reflects the same real features of the imaginary characters. Aida’s character is played by the Korean actress, Sae Kyung Rim. However, the Belgian Mickael Spadaccini plays the role of Radamis. He has many identical characteristics that make him highly suitable for this role. He is tall, handsome and has a singsong tenor voice which is very unique in the world of Opera. The Culturally diverse cast includes a German Director, 150 Ukrainian musicians. 

The Tickets’ costs vary according to the type of it. It starts from a Bronze Ticket for (100 USD). Silver Ticket is for (200 USD). The gold ticket is for (250 USD). The diamond ticket is for (350 USD). Finally, VIP Ticket is for (750 USD).

The choice of “Opera Aida” show location is very distinctive and culturally effective. Hatshepsut Temple is one of the most valuable temples in Luxor. It was built in 2050 BC by Mentuhotep II, the founder of the Middle Kingdom of Egypt. It is located at the West bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings at Luxor. A very well-chosen location is to promote tourism in the great historical city of Luxor.
