Wadi Rum (Valley of the Moon) is located at the far south of Jordan, positioned on a high hill at the western verge of the Arabian Desert. The village of Rum lay above sea level, surrounded by Jordan’s highest spot, Jabal Umm ad Dami and other famous climbs, like the monolithic summit of Jabal Ramm and the pillared significance of Jabal Qatar. Also known as ‘The Valley of the Moon’, this is the place where Prince Faisal Bin Hussein and T.E. Lawrence based their headquarters during the Arab Revolt against the Ottomans in World War I, their exploits intrinsically woven into the history of this amazing area. Besides breathtaking landscape, Wadi Rum also consists spectacular cultural illustrations. 25,000 petroglyphs (rock carvings), 20,000 inscriptions, and 154 archaeological sites have been found in Wadi Rum, featuring the evolution of human intellect and the early use of the alphabet. The several inscriptions are found in four different scripts, Thamudic, Nabataean, Islamic and Arabic. This proves the extended literacy among the Arabian Peninsula.

The 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia featured the magic of Wadi Rum to the whole world, attracting constant regiments of tourists and an increasing number of further film crews.
