Imagine opening your curtains to the Nile, spending the morning inside a 3,000-year-old temple, and ending the day with dinner on the river. That's life on the Sonesta St George Nile Cruise, a 5-star ship sailing between Luxor and Aswan.

The ship is decorated in classic turn-of-the-century French style and has 57 cabins and suites: 47 Deluxe Cabins (including Upper Deck cabins), 9 Presidential Suites and 1 Royal Suite. Every one has a panoramic window, and a bottle of wine and a fruit basket are waiting when you arrive. Deluxe Cabins include Egyptian cotton linens, a 43-inch TV, a safe, a tea maker, free Wi-Fi and a spa-style bathroom with Jacuzzi, steam and a glass shower.

Around the ship, you'll find a main restaurant, main lounge, observation lounge, piano bar, sun deck pool and bar, spa, gym, beauty salon and a barbecue area on the sundeck. Walls are soundproof, and water is filtered and purified.

Ashore, walk among Karnak's giant columns, step into the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, and visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae Temple.

Choose the 5-day cruise from Luxor every Monday or the 4-day cruise from Aswan every Friday. Memphis Tours, welcoming travelers to Egypt since 1955, includes transfers, full board, entrance fees and an English-speaking guide. Check dates and book your cabin today.

Your Nile journey begins in Aswan, the most peaceful city on the river, where granite boulders rise from the water and Nubian villages line the banks. You board the Sonesta St George Nile cruise before lunch, and by early afternoon you're on your way to one of Egypt's most beautiful temples. The evening opens with the Captain's welcome cocktail and ends with a colorful Nubian show.

  • 12:00: Embark on the Sonesta St George before lunch
  • 12:30: Lunch on board
  • 13:30: Guided visit to Philae Temple, followed by a relaxing motorboat ride on the Nile
  • 16:30: Afternoon tea
  • 19:30: Captain's welcome cocktail
  • 20:00: Dinner on board
  • 21:30: Nubian show

Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis, sits on an island in the Nile and is reached by motorboat, so your visit starts with a short, scenic ride across the water. The entire temple was taken apart and rebuilt stone by stone on higher ground to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Today it's one of the most photogenic sites in Egypt.

Overnight: Aboard the Sonesta St George in Aswan

Meals: Lunch, dinner

Visits: Philae Temple

Entertainment: Captain's welcome cocktail, Nubian show

Wake up to the ship sailing north along the Nile. Today brings two of the river's most impressive temples, with time to relax on deck in between. In the evening, put on a traditional galabia and join the party. It's one of the most fun nights of the cruise.

Kom Ombo Temple stands right on the riverbank and is unusual because it was built for two gods at once: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus. The whole temple is mirrored, with matching halls and sanctuaries side by side. Later, the Temple of Horus at Edfu is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Its huge entrance towers and detailed wall carvings look remarkably complete.

Overnight: Aboard the Sonesta St. George Nile Cruise in Esna

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Entertainment: Galabia party

The ship sets sail before dawn and arrives in Luxor in time for breakfast. • 06:30: Breakfast on board
  • 07:30: Guided visit to the West Bank: the Valley of the Kings and Queens, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon

  • 20:00: Dinner on board
  • 21:30: Belly dance performance

The Valley of the Queens was the burial place of royal wives and children. Nearby, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut rises in wide terraces against the cliffs of Deir El-Bahari. Your last stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two giant seated statues that have guarded the West Bank for more than 3,000 years.
