This 12-day Egypt itinerary combining Cairo, Luxor, and Alexandria is one of the most distinctive journeys through the country available — built for travellers who want more than the standard Egypt package, with two experiences that most visitors never get to have.

The first four days are spent in Cairo and Alexandria. Cairo delivers the essentials in depth — the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx on day two, followed by a full day at the Grand Egyptian Museum on day three, housing the complete treasures of Tutankhamun alongside thousands of priceless artefacts spanning thousands of years of Egyptian history. Day four takes you north to Alexandria — one of the ancient world's most legendary cities — for a full day exploring the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Pompey's Pillar, Qaitbay Citadel, and the remarkable Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern tribute to the greatest library the ancient world ever produced.

Day five flies you south to Luxor for an afternoon on the East Bank — Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple — before day six's West Bank brings the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon. After lunch you board your Dahabiya, a traditional Egyptian sailing vessel, and your four-night river journey begins.

The Dahabiya cruise is what truly sets this itinerary apart. Rather than the standard Nile cruise route, you sail at a slower, more intimate pace through lesser-visited stretches of the Upper Egyptian Nile — stopping at the ancient city of El Kab, the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the remarkable sandstone quarry site of Gebel El Silsila, and Kom Ombo's twin riverside temple before arriving in Aswan. The journey concludes with Abu Simbel's colossal temples and Aswan's own ancient monuments — Philae Temple and the High Dam — before a final flight back to Cairo.
