Two of Brazil's greatest sights, six unhurried days. Begin in Foz do Iguaçú, where the Brazilian side of the falls unfolds along a canyon trail with panoramic views of more than 240 cascades and a glass elevator to the viewing platform — followed by the Macuco Safari, a jeep ride through three kilometres of jungle and an inflatable boat that carries you upriver straight into the spray of the Devil's Throat. The next day belongs to Argentina: cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge, ride the park train to the upper and lower circuits, and walk out onto the suspended platform at the very brink of the Devil's Throat. Then it's on to Rio, the Marvelous City — two cable cars to the summit of Sugarloaf for a 360-degree view over Guanabara Bay, Copacabana, and Corcovado; a forest train up Corcovado to Christ the Redeemer, one of the seven modern wonders; and an afternoon at Cidade do Samba, where Carnival's floats and costumes are built year-round, and you can try one on. A free day in Rio rounds things off, with the beach a two-minute walk away.

Itinerary

Welcome to Foz! Your guide will meet you at the airport for a private transfer to the hotel. After check-in, straight to the Brazilian side of the falls: drive through subtropical forest into Iguassu National Park, follow the canyon trail with panoramic views of more than 240 waterfalls, and ride the glass elevator to a viewing platform. Then the Macuco Safari — an open jeep-wagon ride through three kilometres of jungle with multilingual guides, an optional 600-metre walk to the 20-metre Macuco Falls, and finally the inflatable boat upriver into the spray of the Devil's Throat. Bring a change of clothes; you will get wet. Ends with a visit to the artisans' fair.
Duration: approx. 5 hours.
Overnight in Foz do Iguaçú.

Today, the Argentinian side. Cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge above the Iguassu Canyon into Iguazú National Park, where a small train carries you to the upper and lower circuits. Follow the walkways to the tops of the falls, through forest alive with orchids and birdlife, finishing at the suspended platform right at the brink of the Devil's Throat — the greatest waterfall of them all.
Duration: approx. 7 hours.
Overnight in Foz do Iguaçú.

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, a private transfer to the airport for your flight to Rio (not included). Welcome to the Marvelous City — and straight to Sugarloaf. The first cable car climbs Urca Hill, 215 metres up, with views across Guanabara Bay and its islands; the second lifts you to Sugarloaf's summit at 395 metres, for a 360-degree view taking in Botafogo, Copacabana, Corcovado, and downtown.
Overnight in Rio de Janeiro.

Meals: Breakfast

A scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon brings you to the foot of Corcovado, where a small train climbs the forested mountainside to Christ the Redeemer — one of the seven modern wonders, 2,300 ft above the sea — and a panoramic view that explains the city's nickname. A stop for lunch follows (meal not included). Then Cidade do Samba, the warehouses where Carnival's floats and costumes are built year-round; learn the history of the parade and try a costume on for size.
Duration: approx. 8 hours.
