Yes. As of April 2025, Brazil requires US citizens to obtain a visa before travelling — the previous visa-free arrangement has ended. American travellers now need to apply for an electronic visa (e-visa) in advance of their trip. The e-visa is applied for online, so there's no need to visit a consulate in person, and it's typically valid for multiple entries over a period of several years. Your passport must also be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Brazil. We recommend applying well ahead of departure, and we're happy to point you to the official application portal and confirm exactly what you'll need.
It's recommended for travel to the Amazon and several other states, including Amazonas, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Pará. It's mandatory if you're arriving from a country with recent yellow fever outbreaks. Check with your doctor well ahead of departure.
April–June and September–November offer the best balance — comfortable weather, fewer crowds, better prices. December–March is summer: hot, festive, and peak season, with Carnival in February or March. If wildlife is your priority, June–October is dry season in the Pantanal and the best window for jaguars.
Yes — this is one of the most popular requests. Iguazu straddles the Brazil–Argentina border, which makes the combination natural, and Brazil–Peru works well for travellers who want Machu Picchu alongside the Amazon. See our multi-country tours or ask us to build one.
Brazil is visited by millions of travellers every year without incident. As in any large country, the usual precautions apply in cities — be aware of your surroundings, don't display valuables, use arranged transport at night. Travelling with a private guide and pre-booked transfers removes most of the friction, which is a large part of what we do.
o. Brazilians speak Portuguese, not Spanish, but all our guides speak English, and you'll be looked after throughout. A few words of Portuguese go a long way socially, though.
