The Essence of Northern Argentina 8 Days
Argentina's northwest is a land of impossible colours — ochre canyons, seven-hued hills, blinding white salt flats, and endless vineyards ripening under the highest desert sun in the world. This 8 -day journey traces the very best of it from the colonial city of Salta, at your own pace, with your own driver and a local team handling every detail from arrival to farewell.
Salta — colonial heart of the northwest
Begin in one of Argentina's best-preserved colonial cities, framed by green hills and steeped in Andean tradition. Settle in on arrival, then use Salta as your base for a week of unforgettable drives, each returning you to its cobblestoned charm.
Cafayate — the wine road through the Quebrada de las Conchas
Head south through 83 kilometres of wind-sculpted red rock — the Amphitheatre, the Devil's Throat, the Obelisk — until the first vineyards appear. In Cafayate, taste the region's celebrated high-altitude Torrontés and Malbec at a traditional bodega over lunch, then let the afternoon unfold at your leisure. Optional evenings reward you further: stargazing among Andean legends, or a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the valley.
Cachi — cactus forests and the Cuesta del Obispo
One of the continent's most spectacular drives climbs the winding Cuesta del Obispo into Los Cardones National Park, where giant cacti stand like sentinels along the arrow-straight Recta del Tin Tin. At the end waits Cachi — a postcard of adobe houses, cobbled lanes, and colonial calm.
Purmamarca & Salinas Grandes — seven colours and a sea of salt
Discover the Hill of Seven Colours rising above Purmamarca's craft stalls, then climb the dramatic Cuesta de Lipán to the Salinas Grandes — 21,000 hectares of dazzling salt flats scattered with mirror-bright lagoons, one of Argentina's seven natural wonders.
Quebrada de Humahuaca — a UNESCO World Heritage valley
Follow this ancient valley, inhabited for 10,000 years, through the villages of Tilcara, Huacalera, Uquía, and Humahuaca — each with its own colonial chapel, painted hillsides, and warm-hearted traditions.
The soul of the region
Close your journey with a horseback ride through the hills near Salta, followed by a three-course regional lunch with wine tasting and live folk music — or, if you prefer, a hands-on cooking experience at the San Miguel Market alongside a local chef.
This is northwest Argentina at its most complete: colonial cities and Andean villages, world-class wine and otherworldly landscapes, all at the unhurried pace of the journey.
