Take a day trip out of Muscat to visit to of Oman’s most significant and historical oases, as well as the fishing village of Barka. Tour the fortresses of Rustaq and Nakhl and learn about their history, which dates back to the pre-Islamic period.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Muscat at 08:00 and drive you to the Barka to see the fish market where the day’s fresh catch is bartered for and sold. Afterward, you will proceed to Rustaq and Nakhl. The oasis of Rustaq has been famous for thousands of years for its hot springs, which are said to have healing properties. The oasis was first settled under pre-Islamic Persian rule and Al Hazm Fort incorporates elements from this period as well and extensive fortifications built during the 17th and 18th centuries. After touring the fort, you will continue to the hilltop fort of Nakhl. This site also dates back to the pre-Islamic period, but he existing fortress was rebuilt in the 17th century. Afterward you will visit Al Thowara Oasis to enjoy a picnic lunch in the palm groves before before driving back to Muscat. The tour will last approximately 8 hours and you will be back at your hotel by late afternoon.
