Eid Al Adha 2021 in Oman

Eid al-Adha 2021 in Oman or the "Sacrifice Feast". It  is the second Muslim holiday celebrated in Oman each year after Eid al-Fitr. 

Story Behind Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha concludes the Pilgrimage to Mecca. Eid al-Adha represents Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham) willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son to him.

According to the Quran, Ibrahim was just about to sacrifice his son to God when he heard a voice from heaven allowing him to make something else as a 'great sacrifice'. 

Muslims re-enact Ibrahim's obedience by sacrificing a cow or ram during the Eid. The family will take about a third of the meal, a third is given to friends and relatives, while the remaining third is donated to the poor and needy.

Time of Eid Al Adha 2021 

Lasting for four days, Eid al-Adha is also known as Al Eid Al Kabeer, meaning the 'Grand Eid'. 

Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the twelfth month Dhu al-Hijjah, which is the final month in the Islamic calendar.The date of Eid may vary between countries.

Eid al-Adha 2021 takes place on the evening of Monday, July 19.

Traditions of Eid al-Adha

As mentioned earlier, the most important tradition for Eid al-Adha is sacrificing a cow or goat, and donating a third of the meat to the poor and the people who cannot afford it. 

On the first day of “Eid al-Adha”, Omani people gather in mosques to perform the Eid prayer. Then, they start the celebrations and outing together.
