Maritime Museum in Oman

The city of Sur is abundant with examples of the Omani marine heritage that highlights the leading role the Omanis played in the maritime industry for a long period of time. In order to preserve this tradition for future generations, the Maritime Museum was built in Sur in the Al-Aruba Club headquarters to reflect the various aspects of Oman’s maritime heritage.
This museum was established in 1987 and houses pictures and models of Omani ships and their captains and shipbuilders, the ports the ships frequented, as well as the equipment and tools used for navigation, such as instruments, maps and manuscripts.
In another corner, the visitor can see tools of the shipbuilding industry and types of wood, nails and night-time guidance lights. The museum also includes pictures of Sur City in 1905.
