Concentric fold in Oman

This beautiful fold contains limestone which developed 250 million years ago in a former ocean called the Tethys. It was located in what is now the north of Oman. The ocean closed when the oceanic crust was pushed up onto the Arabian continent. When the limestone was heated under pressure by overlying rocks it caused the material to become flexible like plastic, and to fold over itself as it was pushed from the Northwest.
