To start with I was very hesitant about going on holiday in the UK nevermind all the way to Egypt. Being paralysed from the shoulders down (tetraplegic) and wheelchair-bound, I knew I would have a lot of obstacles to overcome. I spoke to a few companies in the UK about arranging this holiday with my family and carer, but I didn't feel comfortable or convinced by their arrangements. I continued searching through the Internet, when I came across 'Memphis tours', I e-mailed them enquiring about their services and how they would cater for someone like myself wheelchair-bound and paralysed. I got an instant reply from a gentleman named Amer who assured me about the services they could offer. From that point onwards Amer was my point of contact, I didn't receive answers to my questions from different people each time as I had done previously with other companies. I explained my predicament about travelling abroad and how important it was that I travelled everywhere in my wheelchair, and that I could not transfer into car seats. Memphis tours were very accommodating and instilled confidence in me that I would be in good hands. I must have written about 20 plus e-mails with questions, each time Amer was very quick with his responses and always polite. We were met at Hurghada airport by a memphis rep, who whisked us through the airport and customs, into a waiting van, they had portable ramps, which were used throughout my trip. It took us about 10 to 15 minutes to reach our hotel, we stayed at the Steigenberger Al Dau Resort, which was ideal for wheelchair accessibility. There were a few obstacles, to overcome but the hotel staff were very accommodating and helpful. This was all arranged prior to my travel by Memphis. Hamdi was our representative from Memphis tours throughout our stay, We were also given a mobile phone with some credit to use for the whole of our stay which proved very useful. Hamdi was always on hand or a phone call away to answer any queries or offer advice. He arranged an excursion downtown and a private boat trip for fishing and snorkelling at our request. There was no pressure to go on excursions, normally you get holiday companies constantly bugging you to go on excursions, but with Memphis tours they were more relaxed and did not pressurise us. Overall they made it a very enjoyable and memorable experience. I do intend to make the trip again to a different part of Egypt and will definitely be using their services.
