Sirince in Turkey
As charming as the meaning of the name indicates, Şirince is a lovely little village comprised of narrow streets with old adjacent houses.
Sirince located about 9 kilometers southeast of the town of Selçuk, and at the end of a long endangered road that covers its way up into the hills passing vines and peach and apple farms, Şirince lies in a perfect collection of stone and stucco houses with red-tiled roofs.
Şirince's rural wooded surroundings and long winemaking tradition have made it popular with Turkish and foreign tourists alike and it gets very busy at weekends. While this deluge has affected the village's original charms, it remains one of the most beautiful places in Turkey. It's much more peaceful by night, and some of the tasteful boutique hotels offer overnight accommodation.
Walk around Sirince
As usual, the first thing to do when you visit a place like Sirince is to walk to explore the environment of the village. The countryside around Sirince is really attractive and we walk among olive trees, fruit trees (cherries, peaches, Mango) and other types of plants. Now, you understand better where the village’s reputation comes from and all the products that are sold in its alleys.
Oppositely, the village of Sirince is still quite touristy, especially during the day when quite a few big buses arrive directly from Kusadasi and Selçuk for a few hours. But early in the morning (Evening), the village retrieves its tranquility and it is nice to walk through its streets to enjoy the wonderful lights.
That’s why It’s recommended that you sleep in Sirince and avoid coming only for the day.
How to Reach Sirince?
It’s quite easy to arrive in Sirince. Take a train From Izmir, you just have to take a train from Basmane train station to Izmir (costs 8.5 Turkish Lira/pers). You can also take buses but they are more expensive and less comfortable than the train so don’t bother yourself and take the train.
If you have a car, Put in mind that you will need to park it near the Selçuk Otogar and taking the minibusses that commute from there to Şirince and back every 20 minutes during the day. The minibus goes right to the center of the village. Cars must park, for a fee, on the outskirts, sometimes quite a walk from the center.
Accommodation in Sirince
About the accommodation, When you arrived on-site without booking and you had no problem finding something in a high price range like a maximum of 200 Turkish Lira per night.
There are dozens of pretty little guesthouses and hotels in the village. To be honest you will stop at the first guesthouse on your way that will in your expected prices and it will be very good
When to visit?
I strongly recommend you to avoid visiting Şirince on weekends, especially Sundays, in the afternoon when thousands of local tourists will crowd its streets. You can visit it in the warm months where the weather in the city is great, the plants are green and fresh and no crowds!
Shopping in Şirince
You’ll find many regional and organic products: soaps, vinegar, honey, and traditional sweeteners called pekmez made from a variety of fruits. Nar ekşisi is a tasty vinegar replacement made from pomegranate juice! Also Sirince famous of its organic wine.
