[Bigtitle]Al Azhar Mosque[/Bigtitle] Al-Azhar Mosque was established as a Shi'ite school in the Fatimid era. It consisted of a court surrounded by three aisles, the largest of which is the prayer direction aisle.
[Bigtitle]Amr Ibn Al'as Mosque[/Bigtitle] As Egypt's most ancient Islamic mosque, the Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque was built in the age of the Islamic Conquest of Egypt. It has been subject to many changes in the subsequent Islamic eras.
[Bigtitle]Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque[/Bigtitle] This is considered one of Egypt's largest and oldest mosques, which was built between AD 876 and AD 879 by an Abbasid governor sent from Baghdad to rule over Egypt.
[Bigtitle]The Mosque and Madrasah (School) of Sultan Hassan[/Bigtitle] Built in 1356, this mosque lies at the junction of the Citadel street and Salah El Din Square. It was built by Sultan Hassan Ibn Qalawon as a mosque and madrasah (school) to teach the four sects of Islam. It is composed of an open court, surrounded by four iwans (sections) for the four schools.
[Bigtitle]Mohamed Ali Mosque[/Bigtitle] Built in 1830 in the citadel of Salah Al Din Al Ayyubi along Ottoman lines of Byzantine origins, the mosque comprises a square shaped riwaq (gallery) for prayers; covered by a dome over the mihrab .On the wall stands the clock tower, a gift from Louis Philippe, king of France.
[Bigtitle]Mosque of El Rifa’i[/Bigtitle] The Mosque was built in 1911 over looking Salah El-Din Square near the Citadel, South of the mosque of Sultan Hassan.
[Bigtitle]Al Hakim Mosque[/Bigtitle] The Mosque of Caliph Al-Hakim consists of an open roof court surrounded by four aisles. The largest aisle is the prayer direction one. The mosque has two minarets.
[Bigtitle]Al Sayeda Zeinab Mosque[/Bigtitle] Al Sayeda Zeinb mosque stands in the heart of the square named after Al Sayeda Zeinab the grand daughter of the Prophet. The main facade of the present Mosque looks over Al Sayeda square with three gateways leading directly to the mosque.
