Pharaonic history confirmed that the ancient Egyptians gave a special concern with dramatic performance accompanied with musical patterns or poetry. Temple walls show a lot of ceremonies which indicate to the profound interest in music, singing and dancing.

What was the objective of Opera building?

Building Opera had a great objective in region of Khedive Ismail, where Suez Canal was inaugurated In 1869. So Khedive Ismail gave order of building an opera to celebrate in inauguration of Suez Canal. It was called in past Royal Opera House and referred to combination of drama and music. The building of Opera was designed by Italian architects Avoscani and Rossi and was constructed by foreign specialists with great experience in building theatres; the opera was built during only six months. The music was composed by Giuseppe Verdi .eventually the result was the famous opera, opera Aida, that distinguished by heroic quality, powerful dramatic scenes and its passionate music.

Although opera Aida is the famous, the Opera House was opened with Rigoletto, a first masterpiece of Verdi.Royal Opera House was the first one in Africa that performed world famous operas and symphonic masterpieces.

Tragically, in 28 th October 1971, the great Royal Opera House was entirely destroyed by a fire. Nothing was left except two statues made by Egyptian artist Mohamed Hassan (1892-1961).
