Temple of Edfu

Location:
The temple of Edfu is situated in the middle between Aswan & Luxor, about 75 miles from the two cities.

Who built it?
It was built during the reign of Ptolemy VIII to Ptolemy XII & considered the most preserved temple in Egypt. The temple was mainly dedicated to god Horus, the chief god of Edfu. It was discovered by Auguste Mariette.

Why was it built?
The aim of the Ptolemaic temples is to guarantee the legality of the foreign governor in ruling the country, as the king strengthens his relation with the Egyptian deities by dedicating temples to them.

Explanation:
Like other ptolemaic temples, Edfu temple is consisted of a pylon, a court, a hypostyle hall, hall of offering & the sanctuary.reliefs on the temple walls depict the famous story of Hours victory over his uncle Seth (god of the universal chaos).
