Who built it?

It belonged to Chefren , one of the kings of the 4th Dynasty , it was built in Giza plateau from a knoll of rock which had been left from the Great Pyramid of King Cheops .

Why was it built ?

This sphinx was made to be the Guardian for the pyramid of the king Chefren .
