Hor-Aha

Dynasty:

It was believed that Aha was actually king Menes the founder of the 1st Dynasty, and was the first king to unify Upper and Lower Egypt into one kingdom. Another theory says that he was his follower.

History:

The ancient Egyptian civilization began with his crowning, and did not end permanently until the beginning of the Roman era , which started with Augastua Ceaser. There were a lot of religious festivals representing his coronation. His chief wife was Queen Berenib, though she was not the mother of his heir, king Djer , and his mother was probably Neithotepe, if that lady was not also his wife. His death is a mystery, for, according to legend he was attacked by wild dogs and Nile crocodile in the Fayum . Aha's tomb resides at Sakkara, the famed necropolis of Memphis.

The Naqada label has since often been forwarded as the ultimate proof that Menes is to be identified with the Horus Aha. It was noted that during the 1st Dynasty, it was customary for a king?s Horus- and Nebti-names to face each other, which is not the case on the Naqada label. However, the Naqada-label has not revealed all of its secrets yet. This is due to the fact that we know too little about the nature of writing in this early period of the Ancient Egyptian history. What is clear is that the label does not in any way provide us with a Nebti-name of a king, let alone that this king would be Menes and that the label would help identify Menes with either Aha or his predecessor Narmer

Monuments:

There is a great tomb in Naqqada, which was probably built by him for his mother Neithotepe. Another two great monuments built by the king in Abydos and Saqqara which were considered his northern and southern tomb.
