Coptic Museum


Housing the world?s largest collection of Coptic Christian art work, the Coptic Museum in Cairo provides a link between ancient and Islamic Egypt.

Location:

The Museum is located in an area of great historical importance within the grounds of the Babylon Fort, one of the remaining monuments refers to the Roman Period, in Old Cairo.

Who built it?

It was founded by Morcos Smeika Pasha in 1910 AD

Why was it built?

Morcos smeika pasha founded this museum to collect the material necessary to study the history of Christianity in Egypt.

Overview:

Lying over 8000 square meters, buildings and gardens included, the museum has been renovated with the two annexes, the ancient and the modern aisles and reopened for visits in 1984 AD. The objects displayed have ascended to 16000 pieces approximately, arranged as possible in the chronological order in 12 different sections . The display was set according to the scientific measures.
