Al Orman Park

Orman is originally a Turkish word means the forest. Al Orman is one of Egypt?s rare botanical parks as it contains the biggest botanical collection of about 600 kinds.

Al Orman Park is one of the most famous national parks in Egypt, located in Giza Governorate in front of the Zoo. Al Orman Park is one of the biggest botanical gardens in the world as it is located on about 28 feddans .Al Orman Park had been established from about 100 years and it contains rare collection of trees & palm trees.

Al Orman Park was established in the reign of Khedive Ismail in 1875. Its main purpose was providing the Khedive palaces with fruit and citrus fruit. At first the park was a part of the palace of the Khedive. As it was part of his palace the Khedive gave a special concern with the park and brought different and various kinds of plants, crops and fruit from all over the world. French engineers were in charge of designing the park in a natural design on an area about 95 feddans. Al Orman Park was merged with the Zoo. It separated from the Zoo in 1890 and stayed following the Khedive Palace until the Ministry of Agriculture received it in 1910. After some engineering designs in the area around Al Orman Park, the area of the park came down to be about 28 feddans.

Al Orman Park has a department for exchange the roots with the other parks and the research centers around the world. Till Now there are three books about Al Orman Park?s botanical content of trees, palm trees, bushes,?.etc. The management of the park now gives special concern with the over 100 ? year ? old trees.
