26th Dynasty

The Founder & Royal Family:

This dynasty was founded Psametik I , who was the son of the saite prince Nekau I who was rewarded with the rule of the western delta, a long with Memphis , he was killed but psametik I managed to return to the throne and established the twenty-sixth. This founder took as his principle wife Mehtemweskhet who was the daughter of Harsiese S, High Priest at Heliopolis, further cementing his rule.

History:

The saite or the twenty sixth dynasty of Egypt was the last native dynasty to rule Egypt before the Persian conquest, and it's capital at Sais.it is often consided part of the late period.

Psametik I continued to consolidate his power and bring the country under complete unity, something Egypt had really not seen in a number of years.

Psametik I was succeeded by his son, Necho (Nekau) II , who continued to build on his father's accomplishments in Egypt . As he continued the foreign involvement of his father, and Palestine once more became an Egyptian possession.

Due to conflict in Asia between the Assyrians and the Babylonians and the Medians, the Assyrians kingdom collapsed and encouraged Nekau II to march to Syria but he was defeated by the Babylonian king , so he returned to Egypt and constructed a big fleet in the Mediterranean and a smaller one in the red sea , as well as trying to dig a canal connecting the red sea and the Mediterranean but it was never achieved by him.

Through the reign of Wahibre , the Babylonians during his reign destroyed Jerusalem badly so thousands of Jewish families escaped to Egypt and settled all over the country and especially Elephantine in the south. As well the Greeks tried to invade Libya, when this king sent the Egyptian army to help the Libyans leaving the greek mercenaries behind whom betrayed the Egyptian army and lead to their defeat which lead to a revolution in the country against this king which made Ahmose II declare himself as a co-regent until he finally got ride of Wahibre .

Ahmose II after his ascending to the throne secured the east and the west borders of Egypt by building many garrisons to protect Egypt from the Babylonians and captured Cyprus.

Through the reign of Psametik III appeared new rising power in Asia which was the Medians ( Persia ) and Cyprus who was able to destroy and capture Babylon in 539 B.C and came cambysis who started to look towards Egypt and was able to defeat the Egyptians near Tell el Pharma and captured Memphis so Pasmetik III committed suicide which put the end of the twenty ? Sixth dynasty.
