Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Muscat at 8:30 AM to begin your tour. The first stop will be the beautiful Grand Mosque of Muscat. Built over a period of 6 years from 1995 to 2001, this beautiful building includes a chandelier of pure Swarovski crystal and 5 minarets, representing the five pillars of Islam. From the Mosque, proceed to the old city of Muscat and the Muttrah souk, a traditional Omani market. The souk offers a wide range of goods, especially typical Omani souvenirs like Frankincense, Omani daggers (Khanjar), beautiful silver handicrafts and scarves. The guide will escort you on the stroll through the souk and help you bargain for the best price with the merchants. Next, continue to the Bait Al Zubair Museum. The museum is a small house that has been converted to display archeological discoveries and traditional Omani artifacts, such as national dress and jewelry. The museum also displays an exhibit of old pictures of Muscat before the renaissance that started with the reign of Sultan Qaboos in 1970. Finally, proceed to the Sultan’s Palace and the twin forts of MIrani and Jalali, which were built by the Portuguese during the 16th century when they ruled the coastal city of Oman. You will then be returned to your hotel to enjoy the evening.

**The museum and the Grand Mosque are not open on Fridays or during public and religious holidays.

Oman’s climate is typical of the Arabian Peninsula with blisteringly hot summers and Mediterranean winters. During the summer months almost the entire country is hot; the thermometer can often nudge up into the 40°C. The winter months are pleasantly temperate, daytime temperatures rarely climbing much above 30°C. Temperatures are considerably cooler in the mountains than on the coast
