We arranged by internet, and paid fully in advance, for a tour and travel within Egypt using Memphis Tours. Almost two months after booking we had no receipt or vouchers for the tour, and finally prior to leaving the U.S., wrote and insisted on a receipt and itinerary. When we got to Cairo, no one from Memphis Tours met us at the airport as we had paid for, or came when we telephoned. It was as if they never heard of us. The hotel where they were supposed to make reservations for us had never heard of us either, and so would not send their taxi service. So we had to fend for ourselves with the taxi hordes outside the airport. Once we got to the hotel, it had no record of our reservation, but assisted us in contacting Memphis Tours the next morning, and the tour proceeded from there up to Aswan. Memphis Tours never reimbursed our taxi costs from the airport to the hotel, which were included in the program we paid for. After the Memphis Tours excursions ended at Aswan, the program we purchased provided for a flight back to Cairo with a transfer to a hotel and overnight stay. Memphis Tours had not provided us with any air tickets from Aswan to Cairo, however, so that was another problem to be solved. Then on arrival at Cairo the Memphis Tours rep took our bags and lost one between the airport and the hotel. They then accused us of losing it ourselves or of never having had it in the first place. During the Memphis Tours tour, we were not provided things we had paid for, such as daily water and soft drinks for excursions, and cell-phone access. We also were not provided some excursions paid for in advance. When we complained, Memphis Tours first denied the excursions were on our program, but when shown in black and white they agreed to provide a guide for one day of our independent travel in Alexandria, to make up for the omitted excursions. However, the guide never appeared, and we wasted an entire morning waiting for him before obtaining a guide at our own expense. The Felucca excursion and the tour of the Aswan High Dam etc. (that we had paid for) just went down the drain, and were never made up or reimbursed. We never heard from Memphis Tours again about their failure to send the guide as promised, or the lost luggage, or the missed excursions, although we spent three nights in Alexandria and they had our contact information.
