Location:

This pyramid is located at Abusir.

Who built it?

It was built by King Raneferef, also known as Neferefre, who ruled for 3 or 4 years only during the 5th Dynasty.

Why was it built?

This pyramid was built as the ancient Egyptians believe in the resurrection. Raneferef was buried in this pyramid according to the ancient Egyptian concept of life after death.

Explanation:

King Raneferef never finished his pyramid. Today the pyramid appears as a low mound just south of the pyramid of Neferirkare. In the middle of the pyramids north side, there is a dissenting corridor opens into the king's underground chamber. Here one can find a large arch which was once part of the interlocking arch system, an unusual feature of this pyramid. The funerary complex was built quickly, probably because of a sudden death of the pharaoh. Still, it contained one element of interest; one of Egypt 's oldest hypostyle halls, a room of 20 wooden columns.
